One page decides how a campaign reaches out to people: whether it warms them up with comments first, whether it sends the connection request, and when it suggests DMs.
Where: Campaigns, open a campaign, then the Outreach tab.
There is no Save button. Every change is saved as you make it. A value the app won't accept is refused and stays on screen with the error, so check for a red message if something looks unsaved.
To see what Extrovert then does with these rules, read when Extrovert recommends a DM.
The three sections are independent
The page has three sections, each with its own switch:
Warm up - comment on someone before you contact them
Connection requests - send the request automatically
Direct messages - suggest the first DM and the follow-ups
Turning one off does not turn off the others. This is the part people get wrong most often, so it is worth stating plainly:
Warm up off does not mean outreach off. It only removes the requirement to comment first. Connection requests and DM suggestions keep working, they just start right away.
All four combinations are allowed. You can warm people up and never connect automatically, or connect and DM with no warm-up at all.
Warm up
Extrovert waits until you have commented on someone enough times, then lets the connection request and the first DM through. Only comments that were actually published count. Drafts, skipped comments and reactions do not.
The two comment paths
You can count either kind of comment, or both:
Comments on their posts - comments on the prospect's own posts. Default target 2.
Comments on posts they may see - comments on posts from people the prospect regularly engages with, so your comment shows up in front of them. Default target 3.
Targets are whole numbers from 1 to 10. If both paths are on, hitting either one finishes the warm-up. The two targets do not add together, so two comments on their posts plus two on posts they may see is not four.
Warm up needs at least one of the two paths. Turning off the last one turns off Warm up itself.
Watch out: the second path only works if the campaign is collecting those posts. If it isn't, the page warns you and links to Feed settings, where Indirect engagement has to be on. Without it the path can sit there enabled and never complete. See reach prospects who don't post.
Go straight to outreach when there are no recent posts
Some prospects never post, so there is nothing to comment on and the warm-up would block them forever.
With this on, Extrovert checks whether the prospect has posted in the last 30 days. If they haven't, it skips the warm-up and moves on. The 30 days is fixed and can't be changed. If Extrovert can't confirm one way or the other, it waits rather than guessing.
Warm-up time limit
A safety net for prospects who post rarely: after the number of days you set, outreach starts even if the comment target was never reached. The default is 30 days, the maximum is 90.
Turning the limit off keeps the number, so you can switch it back on later without retyping it. That is true of every setting on this page: switching a section off hides its fields but keeps their values.
What to pick
Cold prospects who don't know you: leave Warm up on with 2 comments on their posts. This is what lifts acceptance and reply rates.
People who already know you, existing customers, or a list you have talked to before: turn Warm up off. Waiting to comment twice just delays a conversation you could already be having.
Prospects who barely post: keep the no-recent-posts skip on and keep the time limit on, or they will stall.
Connection requests
Extrovert sends the connection request itself, without a note, once the prospect is ready. With Warm up on that means after the warm-up is complete. With Warm up off it can go out right away.
The section shows your account's daily limit for connection requests and links to Manage limits. Turning the section off does not withdraw requests that were already sent, and you can always send one by hand. For how requests behave, see sending connection requests to prospects.
This is the one thing on the page Extrovert does on its own. DMs are never sent for you.
Direct messages
This is where you decide when Extrovert should suggest a DM. It never sends one. Every draft waits for you to read it and press Send.
The section has two parts, First outreach and Follow-ups, and needs at least one of them switched on.
If the campaign doesn't send connection requests, you'll see a warning here. DMs are only suggested for prospects you're connected with, so a campaign that never connects will produce very few suggestions.
First outreach
The first DM in a conversation that has no messages in it at all. It waits until the prospect accepts your connection request, and until the warm-up is finished if the campaign asks for one.
Wait before suggesting the first DM: a number of days after the connection is accepted, 3 by default. Turn the wait off to get the suggestion as soon as you are connected.
Three days is there for a reason. A message the same minute someone accepts reads as automation, and reply rates suffer.
Follow-ups
Every message after the first one, for as long as the prospect stays quiet.
If the prospect doesn't reply, suggest between 1 and 5 follow-ups, or No limit. Once a conversation hits that number, Extrovert stops suggesting DMs for it. You can still message the prospect yourself, and comments carry on as usual. The count resets the moment they reply.
Below that is the ladder of pauses, one row per follow-up, each counted from the last message in the conversation:
First follow-up - 3 days after the last message
Second follow-up - 7 days
Third follow-up - 14 days
Fourth and Fifth follow-up - 30 days each
Later follow-ups - 30 days apart
Those are the defaults. Any value from 1 to 90 days works.
Two things about the rows themselves. You only see the steps your limit can actually reach, so a limit of 2 shows two rows, and the hidden values are kept for when you raise it. Later follow-ups appears only when the limit is No limit, because a capped run never gets that far.
Each wait has to be at least as long as the one before it. Raising a step lifts the later steps with it rather than leaving a ladder that goes backwards.
Follow up sooner after a relevant post
When the prospect posts something you could genuinely open with, the next follow-up becomes due in half the usual time. A 14-day wait becomes 7.
There is no separate cooldown to set. It halves whichever pause is currently running, rounding up, and it never lets a campaign exceed its follow-up limit. Leave it on unless you want strictly predictable spacing.
What to pick
Prospects you want to reach now: 3 follow-ups at 3, 7 and 14 days. Firm enough to get an answer, short enough to stay relevant.
Long-term relationships, customers, not-now deals: No limit with a slow flat cadence, for example 45 or 60 days on every step. You stay in touch for years without ever nagging.
Reactivating a cold list: a shorter first step and the relevant-post switch on, so a real event pulls you in sooner.
If you are unsure, set fewer follow-ups with longer gaps. It costs you less goodwill than the opposite.
What each preset sets up
When you create a campaign for People you pick a preset. It only fills in the initial values, and you can change everything afterwards.
Warm outreach - warm up on with 2 comments on their posts, connection requests on, first DM 3 days after acceptance, 3 follow-ups at 3, 7 and 14 days, relevant-post speed-up on.
Nurture - the same warm-up and connection requests, first DM 3 days after acceptance, then follow-ups every 45 days with No limit.
Visibility, Mutual support and Configure manually - comments only. Warm up, connection requests and direct messages all start off, and you turn on what you need.
Campaigns you created before this
Campaigns that already existed kept the behaviour they had. Their old follow-up interval was copied onto every step of the new ladder, and they were set to No limit, because there was no follow-up cap before and picking a number would have changed how they behaved.
If you want a campaign to stop after a few unanswered messages, that is now a deliberate choice: open its Outreach page and set the limit.
