Change your plan: seats, prospect and topic limits, billing cycle

How to add or remove seats, raise or lower your prospect and topic limits, switch between monthly and annual billing, what is charged right away and what waits for renewal, and how to cancel a scheduled change.

Written by Denis Bauer

There is one plan, so changing it means changing three numbers: how many seats you pay for, how many additional prospects and how many additional topics you add on top of what the seats include. All three are edited in one form, confirmed once and charged once. You do not cancel and re-subscribe to change anything.

Where: Settings, then Plan. Press Manage on the Seats card or on the Plan limits block to open Change plan. The same form opens from Manage plan on the Billing details page. Only admins who manage the plan see these pages.

What each seat includes and how the shared limits work is covered in how seats and teams work and how prospect limits work.

The Change plan form

Three rows, each with a stepper and a note of what is in use:

  • Seats. Cannot go below the number of people using them: members who can connect LinkedIn, their pending invites and managed accounts. To pay for fewer seats, remove someone in Team first.

  • Additional Prospects. In steps of 250, at $20 a month per step. The row shows how many prospects the team uses against the total, and how that total is made up: included with seats, additional, and bonus if you have one.

  • Additional Topics. In steps of 2, at $15 a month per step. Same layout.

The Payment summary on the right shows the new total per month or per year, what is due now, and when each change takes effect. Press Confirm changes to apply.

Increases apply now, decreases at renewal

Adding a seat, prospects or topics takes effect the moment the payment goes through. You pay the difference for the days left in the current billing period, shown as Due now, and the full new price from the next renewal.

Removing takes effect at your next renewal. You keep what you have paid for until then, and nothing is refunded. The Plan page shows the removal as scheduled, with the date.

You can mix both in one confirmation. Going from 6 seats and 500 additional prospects to 7 seats and 250 additional prospects adds the seat now, with a prorated charge, and drops the prospects at renewal.

One thing to expect with seats: the price per seat depends on how many you pay for, in bands of 1 to 4, 5 to 9, 10 to 19 and 20 or more. Dropping from 5 seats to 4 moves every seat to the higher band, so the total for fewer seats can be higher than you guessed. The summary shows the real number before you confirm.

A limit you have scheduled for removal cannot be filled again in the meantime. If you are at 900 of 1,000 prospects and schedule a drop to 750, you cannot add prospects until you are below 750, even though the 1,000 stays paid until renewal.

What the form will not let you do

  • Set seats below the people who use them. Remove or change someone in Team first.

  • Set a limit below what the team uses. Delete prospects, or detach topics, or keep the limit.

  • Remove seats when the included limit that goes with them would fall below your usage. Each seat brings 250 prospects and 1 topic, so fewer seats means a smaller included limit. Add additional prospects or topics first, or free some up.

If you have a bonus limit from before the pricing change, reducing your additional prospects or topics can give up part of that bonus for good. The row tells you when that would happen, and a bonus you gave up cannot be bought back.

Cancelling a scheduled change

A removal that is waiting for renewal shows on the Plan page with a Cancel link. Cancelling keeps your current configuration and charges nothing. You can also open Change plan and set the value back to what you currently pay for. The summary then shows Due now as zero and the scheduled removal disappears.

Switching between monthly and annual

The Billing cycle block on the Plan page has the switch.

Upgrade to Annual gives you two months free: a year costs ten times the monthly price for the same seats and limits. It applies right away. Your annual term starts today, and the amount due now is the annual price minus the value of the days you have already paid for this month. Included credits still arrive every month on an annual plan.

Switch to Monthly waits for the end of your annual term. Nothing changes until then. From the renewal date you are billed monthly for the same seats and limits. The scheduled switch shows on the Plan page, and you can cancel it any time before renewal.

When you cannot change the plan

  • A cancellation is scheduled. Press Keep my plan to resume renewals, then make the change.

  • A payment failed. Buying anything is paused until the card is fixed. Press Fix billing.

  • You are on the archived Light plan. Its limits cannot be changed. Upgrade plan opens the same form and moves you to the current plan. See what changed for existing customers on the new pricing.

  • A previous change is still being processed. Wait a minute and try again.

Seats change from Team as well

You do not have to open Change plan to add a seat. Inviting a member who can connect LinkedIn, promoting one to that role or creating a managed account when all paid seats are taken shows a one-seat payment summary and a Pay and send invite button. The seat is added the moment the charge succeeds.

The reverse is not automatic. Removing a person frees their seat but keeps it paid, so the next person can take it without a new charge. When you want to stop paying for it, lower the number of seats in Change plan.
