Campaign ownership and how to transfer campaigns

Whose account posts the comments?

Written by Denis Bauer

Comments and DMs always post from the campaign owner's LinkedIn profile, even if someone else manages the campaign.

Understanding campaign ownership

Who can own campaigns

Team members with a LinkedIn profile connected

  • Comments and DMs post from their LinkedIn profile

  • Can own multiple campaigns

  • Has full control of their campaigns

Managed accounts

  • Comments and DMs post from their LinkedIn profile

  • Admins manage the campaigns for them

  • Don't have direct Extrovert access

Shared access vs ownership

Campaign owner: The person whose LinkedIn profile is connected - comments and DMs post from their profile

Shared with team members: Can manage the campaign (edit prospects, approve comments and DMs, change settings) but everything still posts from owner's profile

The owner also decides which voices are available

Every campaign is written with one voice, and a campaign can't be created without one. The voices you can pick from are the ones belonging to the campaign owner, not to you. So when you set up a campaign for a teammate or a managed account, that person needs at least one voice in their own library first.

Transferring campaign ownership

A couple of things to know first: only admins and managers can transfer a campaign's owner, and only Prospects campaigns can be transferred (Topics campaigns can't change owner).

When you might transfer

  • Team member leaves the company

  • A different person's LinkedIn profile is more appropriate

  • Reorganizing team responsibilities

Requirements for new owner

The new owner must be:

  • Already a team member or managed account

  • Have a LinkedIn profile connected ("Can connect LinkedIn" setting)

  • Have at least one voice in their own library

  • Understand comments and DMs will post from their profile

How to transfer

  1. Go to Campaign → Ownership and access

  2. Find the Campaign owner section

  3. Click Change owner next to the current owner

  4. Select the new owner from the dropdown

  5. Select a Voice for the campaign (the list shows the new owner's voices, and it resets if you change the owner again)

  6. Confirm the transfer

What happens during transfer

What transfers:

  • All prospects and their data

  • Campaign settings

  • Future commenting and DM rights

What doesn't transfer:

  • The voice - you pick one from the new owner's library during the transfer, and drafts from then on are written with it

  • Past comment history (stays with the previous owner)

  • Analytics from before the transfer

Because the voice changes, expect the drafts to read differently after a transfer. If the new owner's voice is thin, fill it in before you restart the campaign.

Sharing campaigns with team members

Any campaign owner can share their campaign:

  1. Go to Campaign → Ownership and access

  2. Select team members to share with

  3. Click Save

Shared team members can manage prospects and approve comments and DMs, but everything always posts from the owner's LinkedIn profile.
